Day School
2021-2022

A big part of City Academy’s success reflects the popularity of the unique timetable structure, which was initiated when the school opened in 1999. Our school year is divided into four semesters of 44 school days each, with 2.5 hour long periods. Students are encouraged to view their school day as 8:30am – 4:00pm. During this period a full-time student would attend two classes and have the time to complete their homework, thus leaving free time in the evening to enjoy family and friends or extracurricular activities.

Proof that the four-semester timetable model enhances students’ success is the fact that many schools have adopted a similar format.

POST-SECONDARY SUPPORT

At City Academy it is our mandate to prepare students for university/college by teaching them the skills, knowledge and work ethic which will make them successful in their future. Finding the correct university/college “fit” is of paramount importance. Our student services department is focused on guiding students through the university/college entrance process which includes researching program options in Ontario, Canada, the United States and abroad.

Students have the opportunity to meet with post-secondary institutions in small group sessions so that they may ask the necessary questions about programs and the admission process. We believe that our students and their families should be making informed decisions about university/college placement.

US & INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

The process of applying to US and international schools is a lengthy one and has many additional requirements. City Academy assists students with: preparing for standardized testing (ACT/SAT); NCAA process (if applicable); completing the application process; advising re: reference letters; scholarship opportunities; GPA monitoring.

Many of our students have been accepted into a wide variety of well-recognized programs in the US and overseas. This includes a number of athletes who gained acceptance on athletic scholarships.

Virtual Learning

The virtual classroom experience motivates students to participate in our program and therefore commit to their own success. As well, our small size guarantees that regardless of whether students are physically in-class or virtual, all students receive the same excellent teaching and support from our fantastic teachers.

City Academy’s virtual program mimics that of the traditional classroom.

  • students are actively engaged by the presence of a teacher 100% of class time in a synchronous “live” learning environment
  • students interact daily with their teacher and peers allowing for collaboration, teamwork and skill building in real-time
  • students participate in online technological experiences, labs and experiments to facilitate and enhance learning
  • students have a clear understanding of course expectations and what is required to achieve success
  • students work closely with the teacher in support of their learning and academic goals
  • students and parents have ongoing communication with the teacher
  • students and parents receive regular and ongoing feedback on course progress
